Learning outcomes can be affected by many factors such as motivation, commitment, learning style, curriculum, etc. However, most of our learners are able to perform the communication tasks specified in the Mandarin Proficiency Profile listed here.

Basic Survival (SURVIVAL I, 32 hrs)
This is an introduction to Mandarin. Learners will be able to perform in a very limited capacity within the most immediate, predictable areas of need, using essentially conversational Chinese.
Topics include:
  • Talk about money, numbers and dates
  • Receive visitors
  • Introduce yourself in social or business settings
  • Express basic opinions, likes and dislikes
  • Asking and telling time
  • Recognize up to 250 Chinese words
Survival (SURVIVAL II, 32 hrs)
Based on Basic Survival, Learners are able to satisfy immediate, predictable needs and basic everyday transactional needs, using predominantly simple sentences in Chinese.
Topics include:
  • Talk about weather and hobbies
  • Make and answer telephone calls
  • Communicate in travel related situations
  • Book tickets and hotel rooms
  • Give and understand directions
  • Write simple, short notes in Chinese
  • Recognize up to 500 Chinese words
Transactional (SURVIVAL III, 32 hrs)
This level builds on Survival level. Learners are a ble to satisfy everyday transactional needs and limited social needs, using conversational Chinese plus basic Chinese characters.
Topics include:
  • Order food and drinks and entertain friends
  • Talk about daily activities, opinions and feelings
  • Go shopping and bargain
  • Ask & answer questions in a wide range of situations
  • Recognize up to 750 Chinese words
Basic Social (SOCIAL I, 32 hrs)
Learners learn more sophisticated means of expression and description. Learners are able to satisfy basic social needs, and routine needs, negotiate for personal and social needs, read simples passages in Chinese characters.
Topics include:
  • Rent/buy and furnish a house/apartment
  • Talk about education
  • Work in China
  • Talk about health and environment
  • Recognize up to 1,000 Chinese words
Social (SOCIAL II, 32 hrs)
Learners will be able to communicate confidently in everyday situations. Learners are able to satisfy most social needs and routine needs.
Topics include:
  • Various occupations
  • Describe work and family background
  • Hobbies and Sports
  • Recognize up to 1,250 Chinese words
Communicative (SOCIAL III, 32 hrs)
Learners will be able to perform effectively in most informal and formal situations pertinent to social and community life and everyday commerce and recreation.
Topics include:
  • More about routine needs
  • Advanced expression for communicating with others
  • Read and discuss case studies
  • Chinese idioms
  • Write simple letters or memos in Chinese
  • Recognize up to 1,500 Chinese words
Basic Professional (PROFESSIONAL , 32 hrs)
Learners will be able to perform effectively in basic professional business, particularly in relation to marketing and sales.
Topics include:
  • Target Market
  • Market Research
  • Sales Strategy
  • Market Share
  • Advertising
  • Promotions
  • Recognize up to 1,750 Chinese words
Professional (PROFESSIONAL II, 32 hrs)
Learners are able to perform very effectively more professional business, particularly in accounting and financing.
Topics include:
  • Accounting
  • Bad Debt
  • International Trade and Payment
  • Assets and Liabilities
  • Profit and Loss
  • Shareholder and Stocks
  • Tax and Audit
  • Recognize up to 2,000 Chinese words
Native-Like (PROFESSIONAL III, 32 hrs)
Learners will be able to perform very effectively in almost all social and business situations in a more comprehensive and integrated approach in which a specific TV drama series (Big Boss) is developed to meet the learnersˇ needs.
Topics include:
  • Business Travel
  • Giving Assignments
  • Making a presentation
  • Announcing results
  • At a trade show
  • Sales Process
  • Closing a deal
  • Performance review
  • Recognize up to 2,000 Chinese words
